He came to Richland, Clarion County, PA, in 1840. He and his wife he had fourteen children, eleven of whom were still living in 1887. He was often honored by his fellow townsmen with town offices, and held the position of justice acceptably for a term of five years. By trade he was a millwright, but most of his latter years were spent in farming and lumbering. He was an earnest member of the German Reformed Church of Beaver township, but for many years the family resided in Farmington, PA.
