He enlisted in Co. H, 89th Regt. Indiana Volunteers in August, 1862, and served three years. He was taken prisoner by Buckner and Bragg, parolled, and exchanged. His regiment was in 13 battles. He received a shell wound in the battle of Tupelo, Mississippi.
