General Notes: Husband - John Fretz

In 1834, he emigrated to Wavne County, Ohio, and in 1835 to Putnam County, which was then a dense wilderness. Although he lived on the banks of the Blanchard River, he had to go thirty miles to mill. For some years their bread stuff, which consisted mainly of corn, was all ground on a hand mill. The entire family's shoes were made of wood. In 1856 he sold his farm and emigrated to Lima County, Kansas, where he purchased a farm, which he worked for three years, then sold to his sons Jacob and John, and returned to Ohio, where he spent the remainder of his days with his daughters, Elizabeth and Fannie. He and wife were members of the Mennonite church, and assisted in building the first Mennonite meetinghouse in Putnam County, where they worshiped for a long time.
