He was carried off by Indians from eastern Pennsylvania in childhood, and remained with them until he had nearly lost all knowledge of the language and customs of the whites. On his return home there was some difficulty in establishing his identity, and he was only recognized by a scar on the back of his neck, which was familiar to his mother.
