General Notes: Husband - Edward Hale Allison

Allison Genealogy states in one chart that he was born in Cooperstown, Venango Co, PA, and in another that he was born in Centre Co, PA. Similarly, another page in the same book states that he died July 1 (possibly confusing the date with his son's date of death?).

Served as County Clerk and Postmaster at Grundy Center For 12 Years
Edward Hale Allison was born near Cooperstown, Venango county, Pennsylvania, July 5th, 1849. He would have been 77 years old on his next birthday. He lived at the place of his birth until he was 15 years of age, when he moved with his folks to Franklin, the county sent of their county in Pennsylvania. He completed his course in the high school at Franklin and later went to Pittsburg where he remained until he graduated from a commercial college. He began the study of law but had to quit on account of trouble with his eyes. For a short. time he served as deputy to the county Recorder of Venango county and he taught school for several terms before he came to Grundy county to take up the business of farming.
A year after coming to Grundy county Mr. Allison returned to his boyhood home where he was married to Helen E. Ketner and he brought, his young bride to their new home on the farm in Grundy county.
Mr. Allison came to Grundy county in 1877 and moved on the farm two miles southeast of Grundy Center, which at that time was owned by his father. Later he bought out the interest of this 280-acre farm from the remaining heirs, and he retained that property up to the time of his death. He came from the farm to Grundy Center following his election to the office of county clerk in 1889. He retired from that office in 1896 and a year later was appointed postmaster at Grundy Center by President McKinley. He filled this place for three terms and retired in 1908.
For many years Mr. Allison was one of the best known and most prominent men in the county. He was an active party leader and worker and for eighteen years of his active life he filled an important office in the county. He was clerk of courts of the county for six years and for twelve years was postmaster at Grundy Center. Aside from these activities he managed an elevator here for a year, he was one of the promoters and owners of the Grundy Center Electric Light and Power plant, he was for many years a director in the First National Bank of this city and he served as Secretary of the Grundy Telephone Company.
Mr. Allison is survived by his wife and one son, Earl, of North Branch, Minnesota, by two brothers and two sisters. The brothers are G. C. of Grundy Center, and J. E. of Peterson, Iowa. The sisters are Mrs. Clara E. Beatty, from Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ella A. Leffler, from Waterloo.
