General Notes: Husband - Herman Frankel

He immigrated to America in March, 1868. He came to Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and was employed in the clothing house of Nathan Block. In 1871 he opened up a clothing house in Mercer under his own name, and in 1874 he took in R. R. Wright as partner. He was interested in the L. M. Ormsby Coal Company of Jackson Township, and the Soldiers' Orphan School, being treasurer and secretary of the former. He was a stockholder in the First National Bank of Mercer; was a member of the town council, and was a Republican. [HMC 1888, 664]

He received a good education in his native city, leaving school at the age of nineteen years; he met the requirements of military service and then emigrated to America in 1868, coming alone. He went to Greenville, Pennsylvania, where he was employed in the clothing house of Nathan Block for a period of almost four years. In 1871 he located at Mercer, and commenced a career as a clothier on his own account. In 1872 he admitted R. R. Wright as a partner in the clothing business, and this partnership existed for sixteen years. Mr. Wright sold his interest in 1890, and thirteen years later M. K. Hefling was taken into partnership, when the style of the firm was the Herman Frankel Company.
Mr. Frankel erected a store building, a substantial brick structure, in 1874. He was active and progressive in the upbuilding of Mercer and vicinity; took much interest in educational affairs and was a loyal citizen in his adopted country. He was treasurer of the Academy. He was long one of the directors of the First National Bank of Mercer and held the position of town councilman. In his politics, Mr. Frankel was a supporter of the Republican party. Fraternally, he was connected with the Masonic order, belonging to Sharon Chapter and Mercer Blue lodge.
