General Notes: Husband - John Lawrence Ruth

He was educated in the local public and high schools, completing his schooling with a course at the Western Pennsylvania Scientific and Classical Institute, from which he graduated with the class of 1888. His business career began with an engagement in the mercantile business. In 1893 he entered the Citizens' National Bank of Mt. Pleasant, as its cashier. In 1904 the Citizens' National Bank were changed to the Citizens' Savings and Trust Company, and Mr. Ruth became its treasurer, in which position he continued until 1914; from that date he filled various positions in the bank of Mt. Pleasant, until 1919, at which time he was elected cashier of the Peoples National Bank, soon advancing to vice-president of that institution.
Mr. Ruth was also a director of the Citizens' Savings and Trust Company of Mt. Pleasant.
The [first] World War activities claimed much of his time and interest, for he was treasurer of the local Red Cross and a worker on each of the Liberty Loan drives. He was a director and treasurer of the Mt. Pleasant Sanitary Association; served as director of the Mt. Pleasant Hospital; and also as secretary of the Jacob Justice Free Dispensary. A Republican in political sympathies, he served as a member of the School Board.
Mr. Ruth was a member of the Rotary Club; fraternally was affiliated with Philanthrophy Lodge, No. 225; Free and Accepted Masons. He was a member of Kedron Commandery, No. 18, Knights Templar, of Greensburg, of which he was Past Eminent Commander; was a member of the Pennsylvania Consistory (thirty-second degree), of Pittsburgh; and of Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He also was a member and Past Grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and was a delegate to various conventions. He was a communicant of the Church of God.
