He was active in the flour and feed business as secretary and treasurer of Emlenton Milling Company, Ltd., which company he helped organize in 1894. For a number of years he was also actively engaged in the insurance business. He was active in the Lutheran Church at Emlenton, Pennsylvania, and a member of the church council. He was a registered Democrat.
