He remained on the family homestead until he had reached the age of thirty-four, when he married and settled on a farm. He purchased this property, which consisted of two hundred acres, an he erected valuable buildings. He was also the owner of two hundred acres of the homestead, in Hempfield township, and in connection with his agricultural labors carried on a dairy of considerable size. Politically he was a Republican. He and his family were members of the Church of God.
