General Notes: Husband - Ellis Elmer Foust


He was educated in the public schools of Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and by a private tutor. After leaving school he served two years in the offices of the Central Pennsylvania Telephone Company, and two years in the offices of the Philadelphia and Reading Railway Company. In January, 1888, he entered Lafayette College, Easton, and was graduated in 1891. After leaving college he went to Chambersburg as assistant principal of the Chambersburg Academy, where he taught 1891-95. While engaged in teaching he studied law with Irvin C. Elder, Esq., and was admitted to the Franklin County Bar at the February term, 1894. He then engaged in the practice of his profession in Chambersburg. In 1898 he added the fire insurance business to his law practice, and was agent for fifteen fire insurance companies. He was a stockholder and director of the Citizens National Bank of Waynesboro, and secretary and attorney for the board. He was one of the founders of the Waynesboro Printing Company, publishers of the Herald, a daily and weekly newspaper at Waynesboro, of which he was a stockholder, director, secretary and treasurer. He was also treasurer of the Waynesboro Gas Light Company, and a stockholder of the National Bank of Chambersburg and of the Chambersburg Trust Company. He was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, March 17, 1896, and was a member of the Franklin County and the Pennsylvania State Bar Associations. In religion he was a Presbyterian, and a member and trustee of the Falling Spring Church.
