General Notes: Husband - Hiram Clinton Foster

He was reared on the farm and educated in the public schools of the neighborhood, and as his father's health was poor he began to take responsibilities early, looking after important matters under his father's supervision until he had acquired the experience and confidence to be trusted with them on his own account. He was only a youth of eighteen when he commenced to relieve his father in business and on the farm, and from the time he reached his majority he had charge of all the details of the management of the property, a very valuable training for his future. Having become interested in oil development, which in that vicinity promised well and exceeded expectations, he followed it up on his own property, which yielded large quantities of second sand oil. Mr. Foster had charge of all the development on his own land, and had one hundred wells there; he also had other oil property. In connection with the production of oil Mr. Foster found general farming quite profitable, and he kept good stock. About 1912 he established a home in Franklin, where he erected a handsome house which he and his family occupied the greater part of the year. He was primarily a business man, devoting his time and attention to his private interests and having no ambition to participate in public affairs. On regular political questions he was a Democrat, but he was also thoroughly in accord with the principles of the Prohibition Party. Like his father and all the rest of the family he was associated for a number of years with the Pleasant View M. E. Church, but in later years he and his immediate family attended the church at Franklin. [CAB, 865]
