He and his wife had seven children, five of whom were still living in 1899. He was a gunsmith by trade. He was an active member of Crawford Lodge, No. 234; Solomon Chapter, No. 191; Northwestern Commandery, No. 25, and also joined the North Star Lodge in 1853.
