General Notes: Husband - David H. Ford

He grew up in Mercer County, PA, and was educated in the common schools. He learned carriage trimming in Greenville, commencing in 1857. In August, 1861, he enlisted in Company K, Sixty-first Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until the charge at Mayors Heights in the battle of Chancellorsville, May 3, 1863, where he was severely wounded while carrying the colors of his regiment in the charge. He lay in the hospital eight months, and at the end of fourteen months was honorably discharged as unfit for further service. He followed his trade until 1873, when he purchased the interest of William McDowell, of McDowell & Cooke, carriage manufacturers, and the firm of Cooke & Ford was then formed. In October, 1884, he became sole proprietor, and in January, 1886, R. E. Thorn joined him in business, and the firm of Ford & Thorn was established. He was a Republican in politics, a member of the G. A. R. and the Masonic fraternity, and both he and his wife were Presbyterians.
