General Notes: Husband - Dr. Henry Lane McCoy

He was educated in Smethport, McKean County, Pennsylvania, and read medicine with his father, who was a noted physician of his day, also with Prof. Sanford Eastman, of Buffalo. He then attended two courses of medical lectures, and graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1868, commencing the practice of medicine in Smethport. In the winter of 1870-71 he attended a course of lectures at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, then returned and resumed practice at Smethport.
Dr. McCoy was a member of McKean Lodge, No. 388, F. & A. M.; Bradford Chapter, No. 258, R. A. M., and Trinity Commandery, No. 58, K. T. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F., lodge and encampment. He was senior warden of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, of which his family were members. In politics the Doctor was a Democrat.

He was early educated in the public school, and for four years after completing his education was engaged in civil engineering on the river division of the Pennsylvania railroad, between Warren and Oil City. He then decided to adopt the medical profession, honored by his father and maternal grandfather. He read and studied under the direction of his father, later under Professor Sandford Eastman, of Buffalo, and entered Buffalo Medical College (Buffalo University), whence he was graduated M.D., class of 1867. He began practice in Smethport, and in 1870-71 attended a course of lectures at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York City.
He had business interests outside his profession; he was a director of the Smethport Water Company; the Smethport Gas Company; and was heavily interested in the Great Southern Lumber Company.
He was a Republican in politics, served as county physician several terms, and also as school director a great many years.
He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, and for thirty years or more was choir director.
He was a past master of McKean Lodge, No. 388, Free and Accepted Masons; a companion of Bradford Chapter No. 260, Royal Arch Masons, and a knight of Trinity Commandery No. 58, Knights Templar. He also belonged to lodge and encampment of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. His club was the Central. [GPHNP, 1039]

General Notes: Wife - Clara Maria Ford
