Metal Twp, Franklin Co, PA

He remained on the family homestead, which he took charge of at the time of his father's death. He owned 120 acres of land. The property once belonged to Mrs. Shearer's great-grandfather, Alexander, who sold his farm to Mr. Shearer's paternal grandfather.
He was a member of the school board, and a member of and elder in the Presbyterian Church (elected in 1885), in which his father was elder. Politically he was a Republican, with which party his father was also identified, and though firm in his convictions was no partisan.
