General Notes: Husband - William J. Gillespie


He was reared on the family homestead farm. In September, 1864, he enlisted in Company B, Sixth Pennsylvania Artillery, was sent to Fort Ethan Allen, then to Washington, D. C., and next did guard duty on the Orange and Alexandria railroad, whence he returned to Fort Ethan Allen, and was honorably discharged June 13, 1865. Mr. Gillespie followed merchandising for several years at Flick, and was the postmaster of that office, which was named in honor of his father-in-law.
