He came to America in 1846, with his wife and five children. They located on a farm near Jamestown, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where they resided for three years, and then went to Crawford County, where they lived five years, after which they purchased a portion of the Donaldson farm in Sugar Grove Township, where they lived until his decease. Politically he was a Democrat. He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian Church.
