General Notes: Husband - Col. John Piper


He was of Scotch-Irish descent. He lived in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania, and was an extensive contractor for the transportation of mails, etc., in western Pennsylvania.

He was a merchant and a contractor, a Whig in politics and later a Republican. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. His military title was gained as colonel of the Bedford County Militia.

One of his ancestors was wounded at the battle of Long Island, in the revolutionary war.
There are differing accounts of his parentage given in different sources.
