General Notes: Husband - William Kinnear

He was born in 1778. [HVC 1879, 481] He was born in 1773. [HVC1890, 354]
He died in 1844. [HVC1890, 354]

He emigrated to the United States in 1785, with his parents, who settled in Ohio. Before arriving of age, he clerked in a store for his uncle, on Third, or Fourth street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was there during the time the city was scourged with the yellow fever in 1798. He resided in the eastern part of Pennsylvania till about 1860 [sic. - 1800 or 1810?], when he removed to the "Pithole settlement" Venango County, and thence to Franklin, in 1811, which became his permanent home. His principal occupation was that of merchant, and in 1812, he purchased a lot at corner of Elk and Martin streets, on which there was a large log house, part of which was fitted up and used by him as a storeroom for a number of years. He subsequently carried on the business on what was later called "Bailey's corner," opposite the court house. During part of this time he was engaged in the manufacture of lumber, having a saw-mill on Tionesta creek.
Under commission from the Governor of the state, he served as Justice of the Peace for many years, his term closing with a change of the constitution of the state; an inspection of his records show that he was a peace officer indeed, judging from the many cases marked settled without costs to officers and witnesses. He was one of the contractors for the building of the "out-let lock" of the Erie and Franklin canal, and its first keeper under state appointment, for a number of years.
He, with his wife, resided on the lot bought in 1812, till his death in the fall of 1844, having raised eighteen children, six of whom married and remained in Franklin. His widow survived him until March, 1855, when she died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Bushnell. [HVC 1879, 481]

He was from the Emerald isle, born in 1773, and came to America in 1785. He first came to "Pithole Settlement" about 1800, and moved to Franklin in 1811. He had a store on the corner of Liberty and Twelfth streets. His first place of business, however, was in his dwelling, corner of Elk and Tenth streets, where he resided from 1812 until his death. The lot was afterward occupied by his son, Francis D. Kinnear. Mr. Kinnear was also a justice of the peace and commissioner, and a prominent member of the Methodist church. [HVC 1890, 354]
