General Notes: Husband - Allen Winfield Mechling

He received an excellent education, attending in succession the Greensburg Academy, the Greensburg Seminary, and the Iron City College. He left the farm of his father at the age of eighteen years and accepted a clerical position with the Evans, Cunningham & Jones Company; later he was employed by D. J. Kennedy, of Pittsburgh. After about eleven years he returned to Westmoreland County and settled on one of the Mechling farms. This farm became his own property, and he successfully engaged in its cultivation and in stock raising. He affiliated with the Republican party, and was a member of the Presbyterian church.
