He was born and reared on the farm on which he resided, which was formerly his father's part of the tract purchased by his grandfather, William. He owned 110 acres of land, and long after he retired from active work, his wishes were still carried out in the management of the farm. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and, like his father before him, voted the democratic ticket.
