He was reared in Harmony, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and attended the public schools after which he became a student at Heidelburg College of Tiffin, Ohio, for three years. He then read medicine with Dr. Lyman of Butler, after which he studied at Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia, graduating with the class of 1880. Subse-quent to his graduation he practiced sev-eral years in Pittsburgh, but after 1886 was located in Harmony, where he was eminently successful, his capability having gained for him the support and confidence of the community in which he lived. He was a member of the Jefferson Alumni; the State Board, and also the Medical Board. He was a Republican in politics and served as a member of the school board some years. He was fraternally a member of the I. O. O. F., No. 648, Har-mony, and his religious connection was with the Grace Reformed Church of Harmony.
