By occupation a cutler, he immigrated to America in 1854, and settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, until 1859, when he came to Venango County. He located on a farm in Rockland township where he remained. He enlisted in Company F, One Hundred and Twenty-First Pennsylvania Volunteers, in August, 1862, and was in active service for three years.
