General Notes: Husband - William Ferguson

He was born in Scotland, and with the removal of his family to the United States, he attended the public schools. Learning the cabinetmaker's trade, he continued in that business until 1900, when he joined in partnership with J. P. Owen, as a funeral director. Mr. Owen withdrew in 1911, and from that date Mr. Ferguson continued in his own name, his place of business being thoroughly equipped with all modern appliances, inclusive of motor ambulance, and all motorized equipment, and his duties require his professional service throughout a considerable section. He was a member of the board of directors of the Scottdale Trust Company up to 1925.
A Republican in political matters, Mr. Ferguson held the position of deputy coroner from 1907, and for a while he served as burgess of Scottdale, succeeding C. H. Loucks. Prominent in the affairs of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Encampment, he held all local offices, and was a delegate to the State conventions of the order; he was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and he was a member of the County, State, and National Associations of Funeral Directors. He was one of the charter members of the Rotary Club; and the Pennsylvania Society. His religious faith was that of the United Brethren.

He was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, and attended the public schools adjacent to his home. When old enough to assist in earning his own livelihood he was employed in various capacities for a number of years, and later entered the employ of his brother, Benjamin Ferguson, a dealer in mantels, grates and tile in Cleveland, Ohio, and thus continued until 1889, when he located in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, and later became an undertaker and funeral director. He was the founder, with Wesley Kelley, of the United States Casket Company, but disposed of his interests therein in the year 1910. He was also a director of the Scottdale Trust Company.
Mr. Ferguson was a Republican in politics, and beginning in 1909 served in the capacity of deputy coroner of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He also served as burgess of Scottdale for three years. He held membership in the United Brethren church, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Knights of the Golden Eagle, and various other fraternal orders, also in the Americus Republican Club, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He derived the greatest pleasure from hunting, and hunted big game in various parts of North America.
