Ruby Exley Sweet, 86, formerly of 502 Ardmore Ave., Erie died Tuesday at the Sarah Reed Retirement Center in Erie.
Born February 7, 1901, in Seneca, she was a daughter of the late George F. and Cather­ine Anna Berlin Exley.
She was married to C. Gerry Sweet, who preceded her in death in 1969.
She was a graduate of Clarion Normal School and Temple University.
Before moving to Erie in 1941, she taught school in Greensburg and Oil City. She later taught at Lakewood and Tracy schools in the Erie area.
Mrs. Sweet was a life mem­ber of the Pennsylvania State Teachers Association, a mem­ber of the Presque Isle Audu­bon Society, and the National Audubon Society, having served on many committees.
She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Erie, where she served as a deacon, chair­man of the Women's Circle, and was a member of the Women's Association.
She also was a member of the Women's Club of Erie, having served on various committees Including the Nature Study Department and Conservation.
She had been a member of the Republican Women for many years.
She is survived by the follow­ing nieces and nephews, Anna Spangler of Cooperstown, Mary Alice Ware of Hillsboro, Ohio, Fred L. Exley of Daleville, Ala., Phyllis Spangler of Titusville, and Adelaide Ander­son of Ocala, Fla.
Also, Richard F. Exley, Shirley Schwab, Robert G. Benton and Jesse V. Benton II, all of Oil City, Norma Jean Morrow of Kennerdell, and Marianna Gigliotti and Dorothy M. Howell, both of Toledo, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm today at the Donald C. Burton Funeral Home 602 W 10th St., Erie. Rev. Lewis M. Evans, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of the Cove­nant, will officiate.
Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
