General Notes: Husband - John Gilfillan


He was born and reared on the farm in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, purchased by his grandfather, Alexander Gilfillan. He was educated at public schools and Bethel Academy. He was elected to the legislature in 1863 and 1872, and in 1876 represented Allegheny County in the senate. He was a public-spirited man, taking an active part in politics and all public enterprises.
He and his wife had five children, four were still living in 1889.
