General Notes: Husband - Samuel D. Purvis


He received a common school education, and learned the carpenter's trade with his father. He afterwards worked at his trade in Pittsburgh and Franklin, but returned to Butler in 1865, and was foreman in the sash and door factory of S. G. Purvis & Company. He was an elder in the United Presby­terian church, and was a leading member of that denomination. In politics, he was a Democrat, and was a member of the school board. He was a director in the Building and Loan Association.
