General Notes: Husband - James Espy

The Espy family were originally natives of Scotland, the pioneer settlers of their name emigrating about the time of the Revolution, settling in Pennsylvania.

After his marriage, they purchased a farm in Upper St. Clair township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was a Whig in politics, and served as justice of the peace, also as postmaster at Upper St. Clair. He was a member and elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church, and the remains of both he and his wife rest in Bethel cemetery.

About 1805, he came to Allegheny County, where his two sisters, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Bell, had previously settled, and it was after repeated requests on their part that he consented to come and visit them. Being favorably impressed with Allegheny County, he located on a farm, purchased fifty-six acres in 1806, and for twenty-five years followed agricultural pursuits, at which he was successful, owning at his death some three hundred acres.
He and his wife had nine children, two were still living in 1889.

He died in 1857. [HAC 1889 II, 481]
He died in 1853. [BRWC, 453]
