He settled in 1828 on a farm of 104 acres, and took an interest in breeding Durham cattle. He served the people in most of the township offices. In early times he held the rank of Captain in the Volunteer Militia. In politics he was a Republican. Mrs. Erwin was a member of the Baptist Church.
