General Notes: Husband - John G. Engle

He was educated at the Bunkerhill and Green Garden, Pennsylvania, public schools, and supplemented this with practical and extensive reading in later life. He always resided at Green Garden after his father took up his residence there, and was the owner of one hundred and thirty acres of land. In 1882 his father had planted two hundred peach trees, and Mr. Engle added to this fruit orchard until he had about three thousand peach trees in full bearing condition. He was also engaged in general farming to a great extent, and in addition grew other fruits. He made a specialty, however, of the Elberta peaches. He was a man of remarkable business and executive ability, and was connected with a number of other business enterprises. He was one of the promoters of the Raccoon Township Telephone Company, and secretary and treasurer of that company; it consolidated later with the Beaver County Telephone Company, of which Mr. Engle was a stockholder. He served as justice of the peace; was an elder and member of the session of the Service United Presbyterian Church; and was a member of the local Grange, Patrons of Husbandry.
