---

He was reared to matur­ity in Fairview Township, Butler County, PA, and received as good an education as the public schools of his boyhood period afforded. He devoted his energies to agricultural pursuits, and met with unusually good results. Aside from his various interests in his home community, he had large land interests in Chesterfield County, Virginia. He was a Republican in politics.
