He was associate judge of Perry County, Pennsylvania. He was nominated by the Republicans for Congress, but the district being Democratic, he was defeated.

He married and settled on the family homestead, and resided there many years, later moving to Ickesburg, Pennsylvania. He was elected associate justice of Perry County in 1836, and late in life moved to Fannetsburg, and resided with his daughter, Mrs. John H. Walker, until his death.
