General Notes: Husband - Matthew Brown Elder

---

He was reared in Swatara township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and received his education in Seiler's Academy. After leaving school he learned the trade of plumber, at which he worked as a journeyman some years. In 1879 he engaged in business for himself, and became one of the prominent men in the trade. Mr. Elder was a member of the Republican party. He was a member of the Paxtang Lutheran church and was an elder in the church.
