He attended the public and high schools of Zelienople, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and when seventeen years of age he ran away from home to enlist for service in the first World War. He enlisted August 23, 1917, and was sent to France with the First Depot Battalion Signal Corps Regiment. Mr. Eichholtz participated in many important battles and drives of the war and was severely wounded during the battle of the Marne, August 10, 1918. He was discharged at Camp Sherman, Ohio, March 15, 1919, and upon his return to Zelienople entered the employ of the National Tube Company as a time keeper. On August 10 he graduated from the School of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh and on August 20, 1923, was appointed postmaster of Zelienople. In 1924 Mr. Eichholtz engaged in the real estate business and in August of that year Mr. W. Roy Smith became interested in the insurance business with him. They had offices in the Peoples Bank Building.
Mr. Eichholtz was a Republican, a member of St. Peter's Reformed Church, and belonged to the Masonic lodge, the Syria temple and Shrine of Pittsburgh, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Rotary Club and the American Legion. He was also secretary of the Chamber of Commerce.
