He obtained his preparatory education in the public schools of Warren, Pennsylvania; was a graduate of the high school, class of 1901, returned for a post-graduate course, graduating in 1902. He then entered the University of Pennsylvania, whence he was graduated with honors from the law department with degree of LL. B., class of 1905. Returning to Warren he entered the law office of Hon. E. H. Beshlier, of Warren County, as clerk, continuing until his admission to the bar of Warren county at the fall term of 1907. In January, 1908, he began practice in Warren. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of its board of trustees and sometime clerk of the board. In politics he was a Republican.
