She entered the congregation of the Sisters of Mercy on 19 Mar 1919, from St. Joseph's parish in Oil City, Pennsylvania. She pronounced her perpetual vows on 15 Aug 1924. A registered nurse, she was a graduate of the DuBois Hospital School of Nursing, DuBois, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. She served as nursing supervisor of the women's surgical and medical floor and obstetrics. She also directed the nursing services at Mercyhurst College, Erie, Pennsylvania, and at the Sisters of Mercy Infirmary, Titusville, Pennsylvania. Before starting her nursing career, Sister Irene taught at St. Catherine's School in DuBois. She celebrated her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 1969; and her Diamond Jubilee in 1979 (60 years). Upon retiring from the DuBois Hospital, she lived at the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse in Erie.
