General Notes: Husband - Rufus Eaton

He was only sixteen years of age, when, with four brothers, he emigrated to the site of Eatonville, Herkimer County, New York, and helped to found the town that bears his family name. At the age of forty years he moved with his wife and eight children to the vicinity of Buffalo, New York, but finding it unhealthy, again moved, settling at Springville, Erie County, near the southern boundary of the county. He located there in 1810, obtained a great deal of good land, on which Springville was later largely built, he being one of the first settlers there. He built the first saw mill in the town, was the first justice of the peace, and with his brother Elisha built, in 1824, the old Springville Hotel. He donated land for the village park, the cemetery, the academy, the First Presbyterian Church, and for other charitable and religious purposes. He may be called the father of the town, so intimately is his name associated with its early history.
