General Notes: Husband - Hon. William Keller Alexander

He was born on the Van Tries farm, Centre County, Pennsylvania, and in his boyhood assisted in the labors of the farm, and when fifteen years of age was sent to school. After attending a number of terms at different academies,-Aaronsburg, Jacksonville, and Academia,-he was sent to Dickinson Seminary, at Williamsport. Ill health compelled him to abandon his studies there in 1863, and he entered into the employ of John V. Forster, then the principal merchant of Millheim. In 1864, on account of his health, Mr. Alexander traveled through the West, visiting Chicago when the convention which nominated Gen. McClellan met there. In 1865, when his father purchased the John V. Forster property, William K. became associated with him in the mercantile and grain business. Upon the death of S. S. Wolf (who died before taking his seat in the House of Representatives of Pennsylvania), at a special election held Feb. 16, 1875, William K. Alexander was elected to fill the vacancy. In the fall of 1876 he was re-elected for the further term of two years, altogether representing Centre County four years in the legislative halls at Harrisburg. In 1881, he made another extensive tour, going as far south as Texas, and visiting the Indian Territory, Kansas, etc. Later he was extensively engaged in the grain and coal business at Coburn Station in connection with F. P. Musser.
