General Notes: Husband - Rev. Joseph M. Duff, Ph.D., D.D.

After a thorough preparatory education he entered the University of Pittsburgh, whence he was graduated in 1873, immediately afterward enrolling in the Western Theological Seminary, where he prepared for the Presbyterian ministry, being graduated three years later. His first church was at Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, and after he had served that organization as pastor for one year, ill health compelled him to temporarily withdraw from ministerial work. In 1880 he returned to his calling, becoming pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Carnegie. Thirty-four years passed and he still occupied the pulpit of the First Presbyterian Church. With the growth of the town the church membership increased, and whereas on coming to Carnegie his flock numbered one hundred, there were eventually over nine hundred communicants on the membership list of the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Duff's ministry in that place was a fruitful one; his church was strong in all departments, having a splendidly organized Sunday school, and numerous societies, each striving in its individual way for the advancement of the Kingdom. Reverend Duff held progressive political convictions, and was a member of the Freedmen's Board of the General Assembly, the Cleric Club, and the Eclectic Club.
