General Notes: Husband - Zachariah Taylor Leighty


He was reared on a farm in Dunbar township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and was educated in the common schools. He followed farming and stock raising.

He was educated in the public schools, and early became his father's helper in the farm work, starting in the cornfield at eight years of age. He always followed the business of a farmer and was very successful. He owned and resided on the farm which was owned and operated by his father and which was his lifelong home. He was interested in coal land speculation and in other business affairs as well. He was a member of the Patrons of Husbandry, was a Republican, and, with his wife, was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Leisenring.
